30 for 30 : Day Twelve

Hello!

So I said I would do an update on the backlog of my outfit posts today. Buuuut I got distracted and dyed my hair instead! I do have one outfit to show you, but otherwise, I think I'll get some photos done Thursday, my day off. At least then I won't have the itch to dye!

Last night I bleached my hair, and I was so excited to see cotton candy pink hair, but not the yellow roots I was sporting. So we went from this:

To this! Yay! I love turquoise, but the pale pink was sooo pretty, I decided to keep some. So I used a tiny bit of Punky Tuquoise and Punky Purple (which is really pink) mixed with a whole lot of conditioner to dilute the colours. I love it! I feel like a unicorn or fairy or big pile of cotton candy!

Oh yeah, and the bow is Hello Kitty!

And then we get to the outfit:

NaBloPoMo Challenge FAILED!

But I'm still 13 for 13 on my 30 for 30! I will be posting Tuesday with the backlog. I'm disappointed, but I missed posting yesterday due to having fun! I went to our monthly games night at my brother's place. I kicked ass at Lord of the Rings Risk, and my brother gave me Apples to Apples To Go! game as a late birthday gift. If you haven't played, do it! It is an easy, fun, addictive game.

Anyway, I'm ok with losing a challenge if it was for a fun night with friends. Long live games night!

30 for 30 for 30 : Day Eleven

Hello!

Today is Remembrance Day in Canada. It's a time to remember those who lost their lives serving for our country, those who came home, and those still working to make this a peaceful world. Americans have Veteran's Day, but it doesn't seem as solemn as up here. People would never say "Happy Remembrance Day" or have big sales at stores- the majority of businesses are closed. Everyone wears poppies and either go to memorials at cenotaphs or watch ceremonies on television. Maybe I just don't see that as much since I don't live in America, but 90% of my television channels are from the US, so I'm getting the impression that it's not the same. I don't know, maybe any readers from America could enlighten me?

This year I decided to do something a little different. I live across the street from a cemetery that has soldiers buried there. The soldier's graves are marked by headstones that have a maple leaf (representing Canada) or an anchor to represent the navy. Even though it was a huge rainstorm outside, I pulled on my rubber boots and raincoat and went over. I visited every soldier's grave in the cemetery to pay my respects. Who knows, they may not have had anyone visit their graves in a long time. I left my poppy on one of their graves. By the time I got home I was soaked. So the outfit you see in this post was ruined. But it was worth it. I think of all the hardships our veterans went through to keep us safe, so a little rain and wet clothes is nothing. Lest we forget.

30 for 30 for 30 : Day Ten

Hello!

Today was a day to channel my favorite TV character, Penelope Garcia from Criminal Minds. Get it, channel? I'm hilarious in my own head. But Garcia is hilarious and has the cutest, quirkiest style. I would love to dress like her every day. But it's a bit over the top, so I dressed up like her on my day off. Hopefully you see the resemblance.

Cute vintage earrings. Buttons and bows are so pretty!

I'm jealous of Garcia's look but also of her mad computer skills.

more bling than you can shake a stick at!

30 for 30 for 30 : Day Nine

Hello!

Another early post for me. I didn't think I'd make it out of bed before noon. I work til late again tonight, but then I have two days off! Finally, after 17 days. Today's outfit feels pretty south west. I feel like I should be wearing cowboy boots.

Turquoise jewelry! Why wouldn't I have some? It's sitting on a 1957 Moulin Rouge theatre programme. The last accessory photos were on a 1939 Golders Green Hippodrome programme. I've started a bit of a vintage theatre programme collection, which you'll see as accessory backdrops.

This shirt is very comfortable. Old Navy is the first store I've been able to buy button-up shirts that fit well.

The flowers are so sweet- plus they're teal, turquoise, blue and black! Perfect.

30 for 30 for 30 : Day Eight

Hello!

Getting my post up early today, since I won't be getting home from work til late tonight and will probably have no desire to type anything up! Welcome to my first follower, David from Sick by Trend. I spent a couple of hours putting together my latest outfit posts, so I'm now 6 more outfits in, and over 1/3rd done photo-wise. Just gotta keep up the motivation to post! Today's outfit is all about comfort- distressed jeans, soft bamboo sweater and a cozy scarf!

My hair is Punky Colour Purple (more like fuchsia!) and Color Jamz Huckleberry Blue.

Love love love the scarf! Though it's a square scarf so I only know the kerchief style of tying it.
4) Distressed Jeans - Dynamite
2) Bamboo Black Zip-Up- Costco
6) Turquoise and Silver Striped Tank- Old Navy

30 for 30 for 30 : Day Seven

Hello!

Looong day today. Seven hours running around, on my feet all day makes me a crabby person. And my supervisor throws on another 3 hours tomorrow for training about an hour before my shift ended today. I wanted to cry. I know she needs to get me trained up so I'm a useful person, but it is too much last minute changes to my schedule! I had to practically yell, "I want a day off!" as I didn't get one at all last week. In fact, I haven't had a day off since the 23rd. Ahhhhh! No wonder I don't feel well, and want to rip someone's throat out. But enough about my work woes. I just really needed to vent. This is also a precusor to why my photos look like crap tonight. I snapped a few and really didn't care about focusing or lighting. They didn't turn out too bad, but this is my excuse. On to the photos!
This sh*t is bananas, and so are my earrings.

I've worn a poppy everyday since the 27th, in honour of Remembrance Day. The pin always stabs me, so I added a Canadian flag pin through the centre, which keeps me from losing it as well!

Like the new hair? I hope to have better pics tomorrow.

Today was a beautiful sunny day- perfect for grocery shopping and going to work- ha ha. Though my day was not all fun and games, I'm home now making mashed potatoes and gravy- mmmm. Possibly chicken or pork chops. But the gravy is the main thing! All right, on to the outfit!

Super in love with these glasses. See the rhinestones?

Because of the black on black, I decided to accessorize with rainbows!

Hello!

Here's my outfit for today. Another heavy sweater, but it wasn't as bad at work today, since I was doing a different job. Tomorrow is a combination of both jobs, so I'll be opting for a thinner shirt.

First, the earrings. Beautiful bunches of silver stars.

30 for 30 for 30 : Day Two

Hello!

Today was another beautiful fall day! So nice to have a good stretch of weather, especially after Sunday's torrential downpour! Today is day two of the challenge, and I'm doing great. I kind of regret the choice of sweater though, as I was sweating through my entire work shift! That might be the biggest problem with taking photos in advance- I might not want to wear the outfit on the particular day due to weather or physical activity. I can always shuffle the outfit lineup, though. Anyway, on to the outfit!

Mahoot wanted to be part of the photo- he's very fashionable.
A close up of the sequin tank top- notice the turquoise ones!
I chose a sequined headband to go with the tank top.

And Carlos did not want to be left out of the modelling.

8) Teal Cable Sweater- Suzy Shier
3) Blue Sequined Tank- Old Navy

30 for 30 for 30: Day One

Hello!

Here we go, it's day one of the 30 for 30 challenge and National Blog Posting Month. I spent the weekend assembling the pieces of clothing and putting together some outfits. While the only guidelines the 30 for 30 challenge is wear 30 pieces of clothing for 30 days, I thought I'd make my own "rules".

1. I chose 10 tank tops, 10 sweaters/shirts/jackets, 8 pairs of jeans and 2 belts. No skirts or dress pants. I have a physically demanding job, so it's important to not have wardrobe malfunctions :) I wanted to include belts, and I felt I didn't need too many pairs of jeans.

2. I have one "alternate" piece of clothing. My employer gave me a t-shirt with our logo on it. It's not an official uniform, but they do expect me to wear it every once in a while. I try to wear it every two weeks, just because that's how often I tend to do laundry :)

3. Accessories are a free for all. I just organized my jewelry, and got a few scarves for my birthday, so I want to use them as much as possible!

4. To make matching easier, I stuck with a limited colour palette. Everything is teal, turquoise, grey or black. I can use different colours with accessories, but I thought I'd stick with my favorite teals and turquoise to make it "me"!

5. I went with random numbering to select my first 8 outfits. I gave each piece of clothing a number.I turned on our guide channel on our tv and the first number I saw was  for the jeans, the next the shirt, the next the tank. If the clothes just didn't look good together, I chose another number. I may change the way I do this next round (outfits 9-16). The closer I get to the end of the challenge, the more likely I'll just put together outfits. I'm hoping for 30 completely unique outfits!

6. I'll be photographing outfits in batches, simply because I don't have time every day to do a shoot. That doesn't mean I'm not wearing the outfits! I have written everything down (including the accessories) in a notebook so I can wear them in order.

Sorry it's not of all the pieces- didn't get them all in the shot.

The Pieces:

Pants:

1) Grey Jeans-Suzy Shier
2) Dark Wash Jeans- Old Navy
3) Black Skinny Jeans- Joe Fresh
4) Distressed Jeans - Dynamite

2) Dark Wash Jeans- Old Navy
3) Teal Cardigan- Zellers
5) Light Teal Tank- Suzy Shier
1) Big Buckle Belt- Walmart

I swear I'm not glaring- the sun is really bright!

This photo is perfect except for my head being cut off. I'm wearing my "balcony shoes"- They slip on easily so I can step out on the balcony without getting my feet dirty. They are impossible to walk in any other time- they're backless like slippers, but lace up like regular sneakers!

My jewelry- The bracelet was thrifted, the earrings are from Claire's and the necklace is from Michael's.

Well, I feel as though I've talked enough tonight- thanks for stopping by!

Birthday pretties

Hello!

Happy Hallowe'en everyone! I'm celebrating by bleaching my hair :) I got a new job so I'm starting with a fresh hair colour. My original plan was to do a blue/turquoise/yellow colouring, but my pink did not go away, so I'm opting for purple and possibly blue. Stay tuned for the results!

My birthday was great, and it's felt like a week-long happy fest since I was blessed with getting a new job and being sent off very well from my other one (such as a wonderful lunch and a cake) Plus I still have to go see Footloose! I thought I'd show you some of the gifts and sweets I got for my birthday.

A beautiful scarf in turquoise, yellow and tan.

I bought a box of tiny pastries- the back is a latte macchiato square, the white is a Napoleon, the front is a mini eclair and the other is a chocolate dipped strawberry cream puff. Mmmmmm...

A cute little beaded coin purse with a sundae!

A cute card from my friend Kat

The sweetest little bunny salt and pepper shakers, again from Kat. They are super glossy, so very hard to photograph!

Tomorrow is the beginning of November, and I wanted to start a challenge for the month. Years ago I tried to complete the NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month) but failed miserably. I wanted to try again, but also add something that is in keeping with a style blog. I saw that Sonia over at Anomalous Allure was doing the 30 for 30 challenge. If you've not heard of it, essentially you wear only 30 pieces of clothing for 30 days. So, I decided to combine the two and do 30 OOTD with 30 pieces of clothing in 30 days. I've photographed 6 of the outfits so far, so as long as I have the time to post every day, I'm already 1/5 there! I'll go into more detail tomorrow.

That's all for now, thanks for stopping by!

Organization FTW!

Hello!

Tomorrow's my birthday! I went out for lunch with the in laws yesterday at Himachi Steakhouse. It was an excellent food experience. I had the Udon Chicken stir fry (which I tried eating with chopsticks, but my abysmal skills made me switch to a fork halfway through), my mother-in-law had a Bento box (much bigger and more beautiful than those supermarket ones), and my husband and his father had the Teriyaki steaks. We all enjoyed our meal and were too full for dessert! The weather was gorgeous at the waterfront. We saw the most beautiful wild roses still in bloom in front of the restaurant- winter is going to hit us like a tonne of bricks this year, I think! This evening my parents will be taking us out to Darrell's Restaurant for some completely different food- burgers and fries and milkshakes. I can't decide if I'll go with my usual strawberry milkshake or try their Creamsicle or Chocolate Peanut Butter one! It's gonna be a tough decision!

A little while ago I decided to organize my jewelry and makeup. I could never find anything, and as a result I wasn't wearing my great jewelry pieces. So I went to Dollarama and Claire's and picked up a few organizers and away I went!

Before:

I had organized things into these little plastic boxes, an Easter mug, a silver container, clear bags, but it was all getting jumbled up and just NOT working. A bad scene all around.

My makeup was half in the metal case and half in a Body Shoppe bag (the purple blob on top) my friend had brought me back from England. And it was just generally a mess. The mirror behind it is a full length one that had been sitting on this little table since we moved in.

After:

Now it's organized! I went into Claire's because I knew they had jewelry organizers, but I really didn't want to pay $20 a piece. So as I was leaving I saw a display with some of the organizers for $3-4! The two black metal organizers are from Claire's, and the white frame is my own creation.I kept a few of the plastic boxes I originally had, but only the blue ones. The pink and purple are in the linen closet! The light blue boxes with the large white tube sticking out holds all my lotions, body sprays and perfumes (the big one is Vanilla Cupcake by bodycology- my absolute favorite and running scarily low). The blue box next to it holds all my big hairclips. In front of that are my teeny tiny ouchless elastics and my sponge rollers. The three small navy boxes hold my little clips and elastics.

I bought a cheap plastic picture frame from Dollarama and some self adhesive hooks. I popped out the glass and covered the piece of paper from the frame with old advertisements I had collected. They're from a 1939 newspaper from Toronto and include a bathing suit sale and a fur preservationist. Then I stuck on the hooks and voila! Necklace hanger!

The mirror is now safely screwed to the wall, and I've moved my jewelry out of the little flowered box and put my everyday makeup in it. The top left drawer holds my stuff for holding my hair back while I apply makeup, the right top one holds my foundation, primer, concealer and powder, the middle left holds my blush and highlighter, the middle right holds my mascaras and eyeliners, the bottom left holds my lip liners, lipsticks and lip glosses, and the bottom right has my eyeshadows. There is still a lot of makeup stowed in my linen closet, but these are the "essentials". The skull chest is my husband's- I bought it for him about 5 or 6 years ago a South of the Border, a store I loved and sadly miss since it closed down. And of course my little spray bottle of water for my hair and my very dirty magnified makeup mirror are also on the table.

I have all of my necklaces on these organizers, and most of my bracelets and earrings. My rings and brooches are in the jewelry box in the corner, and the rest of my bracelets are in front of that. The clear plastic box with the squares on it holds all of my hair tools- brushes, combs, sprays, etc.

It feels so good to be able to see everything now! It makes planning an outfit easier when you can see all your accessories in plain sight!

Well, that's all for now. Thanks for stopping by!
