Black and teal

Hello!

I am sooo sore today! My friend and I went to the Canada Games Centre (which opened in April) yesterday to do a little exercising and hanging out in the pool. Having only walked as a form of exercise for months, I definitely felt it when I got home. I was in bed by 8:00 and slept til morning. Then I came home from work with the 30 Day Shred. Day one was haaard, but I hope to keep it up! I know I'll be sore for the first week or so, but it should be worth it.

Any way, on to the OOTD!

That would be my cat Carlos stealing the spotlight.

This photo gives you a better look at my hair.

Sooo blurry, but one of the better photos! I need a tripod.

I finally got hold of the hair salon. They are booked solid, so I won't be getting my hair cut until September 18th! Yikes. I will be sure to book my next appointment immediately after I get it done!

Anyhoo, that's all for now. Thanks for stopping by!

Style Envy

Hello!

I watched the latest episode of Torchwood last night. It cemented my style envy for the wonderfully intriguing character Jilly Kitzinger, played by the always lovely Lauren Ambrose of Six Feet Under fame. She plays a savvy PR women who doesn't seem completely on the up-and-up. But the main thing that drew me to her is her fabulous fashion sense.

I'm a redhead, and so is my mother. Unfortunately, growing up in the 50s and 60s, my mother learned some severe fashion dos and don'ts. One of them was "redheads should never wear red". I grew up believing the same thing, and it wasn't until high school that I wore much red. It's still not a huge wardrobe staple for me, I'm much more interested in cool colours, but I now know how wrong that fashion "don't" is. Just look at Lauren!

And here she is in another colour that "fashion experts" say looks terrible on redheads- any tan, cream or beige. I scoff at this, as I have some great outfits in these hues!

I've been shied away from oranges and yellows, too. But after last night's episode, I'll be seeking them out more often!

My mother still refuses to wear red, but my eyes are opened. REDHEADS CAN WEAR ANY COLOUR!

Check out the Jilly Kitzinger tumblr- much more awesomeness!

Til next time, thanks for stopping by!

Everyone Needs Little Black....Shorts?

Hello!
Today my outfit feels very Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's. But it's not a little black dress! I rarely wear skirts and dresses, but felt oddly classy in this pairing.

My necklace is a simulated moonstone, but I bought it because it looks so much like a big opal. My birthstone!

A better look at my hair. I love the cute leather bow.

Top: Union Bay
Shorts: Mark's Work Warehouse
Hairband: Ardene's
Necklace: Michael's

That's all for now, thanks for stopping by!

Fascinator Friday

Hello!

Today is the start is what I hope to be a weekly post, if I can keep the creativity flowing. I have a few fascinators already made, so at least I have a month's worth! I've loved the look of fascinators ever since the trend of tiny top hats showed up a couple years ago. I still want one, with a big peacock feather in the band. The trend has turned to more feathers and flowers- a bit more wearable. And usually it's on a headband- easy to wear.

I was in Winners last weekend, and I spotted some feathery headbands. Much to my dismay, they were pretty mangled- mussed, broken and missing feathers. I'm not sure if there are secret feather theives lurking in the HRM or if if they've been bumped and jostled to the point of ruin. I was not worried, I have glue! so, I picked up a fairly unrumpled one in one of my favorite hues, and went to the cash. I couldn't help but ask for a few dollars off- it wasn't perfect, of course!

When I got home, I got out the glue and reattached the feathers that were dangling off. Then I found an old dollar store ring that had broken years ago. The colour matched perfectly, and I glued the back onto the feathers, and voila! Fascinator fixed!

The fascinator is made by Ophelie Hats. They have amazing stuff! I can't remember which dollar store this ring came from, but I've bought similar ones at Dollarama.

Well, that's it for tonight, thanks for stopping by!

What's under your hat, Rose?

Hello!

I have a secret.

I have something crazy under my hat.

Shall I reveal it?

Ta Da! I completely redid my hair! This is part of the reason I haven't posted since Monday- It's a long process to bleach and dye your hair so many colours! Plus I work every day this week, so it's been tough to squeeze in a photo shoot. I still haven't gotten an appointment at the salon- I have to wait til Monday to even call!

So What are we looking at here? Well, I bleached my blue and pink hair on Monday night, hoping to get it a nice white (used violet toner). Unfortunately, the pink and blue only faded to a cotton-candy shade with white tips. I was not discouraged! I moved on to the dying Tuesday night. I sectioned my hair into seven sections, and started applying. The very back sections I dyed Color Jamz Raspberry Kamikaze and Punky Colour Mandarin. The the middle section right behind my bangs got half Directions Alpine Green and half Punky Color Turquoise. Then for my bangs, I sectioned it out and did some Mandarin and some Raspberry. Because of the blue left behind on my bangs, the two colours changed entirely, giving me a purple and dark red.

Here's what the raspberry (left) and mandarin (right) look like in the back:

I really love the Mandarin! I want to do my whole head in it, possibly with raspberry streaks.

All in all, I'm VERY happy with my new colours! Now just to get a nice cut to compliment it. I'll try to remember to bring my camera so I can get good shots.

Well, that's all for today. I'll have something awesome for tomorrow, but until then, thanks for stopping by!

PS- Beret was hand knit by me in a gorgeous yarn I bought for my birthday one year that reminds me of my birthstone- the opal!

Sunny Summer Day

Hello!

Well, today is hot hot hot in Halifax! It's just past noon and alredy 24 C, feeling like 31! That's 75, feeling like 88 to the non-metrics out there! I woke up hoping to schedule a hair appointment for today, but found the place I wanted to go was closed. Hopefully I can get in later this week, as my hair is a hot mess. I got an amazing deal on WagJag for 6 haircuts (with wash and style) for just $25 at Concepts School of Cosmetology! I will definately give you all a review on this place, as their regular cuts are a bargain at $17, far lower than any salons in the HRM. I know what you're thinking. How could I let a student cut my hair? But I've had awful haircuts from a salon in Halifax (who shall remain nameless) so I'm willing to try something new. A professional is with the student at all times, so it would never get too out of hand.

Anyway, on to the reason for my post. another OOTD! This was from my great shopping trip with my family yesterday. It was also an awesome deal, which I am cheesily going to call a "SHUT THE FRONT DOOR" buy.

Dress: Sears Outlet
Shoes: Sears Outlet
Cuff: Ardenes
Fascinator:DIY

The magicalness of the deals seems to only work when my mother is present. I've been to the outlet store a few times on my own but found NOTHING! But the dress was an amazing $15! And the beautiful gladiator style sandals were $19. Haven't had a lot of clothes that really go with the sandles, but when I bought the dress yesterday I found a match! The mint green and purple stones go so well with the beautiful butterfly wings. I thought I might need a belt to go with the dress, but I think it looks great on its own. The fascinator was really simple to make- I just took a big fake yellow rose brooch and pinned it to a headband. Ta da! Instant headgear.

I'm thinking of heading out tonight to the Fashion and Design Festival, which is featuring Clutch Culture by Mo over at Curvy Geekery. So if you're heading there as well, you may see the dress in action!

Starting Out

Hello!

I've been a huge fan of fashion/beauty/style blogs for a while now, and I've thought about starting my own. I don't feel like I'm a trend follower or trend setter, I just know what I like and what looks good on me. I'm a thrifty gal, so I like my clothing budget to stretch as far as it possibly can. I'm also not a waif, and I know I'm not gorgeous or anything. Who says that has to be the case to love clothes and makeup and all that loverly stuff! I was inspired by bloggers like Georgina, Sonia, and Mo. They are not size 0 but they still look fiiiine! Speaking of which, I'll be joining Mo, youlookfiiine, and hautehalifax as a haligonian blogger!

This blog will have OOTD, and possibly NOTD, some DIY, some knitting, some cats (I have 2), some food recipes, some product reviews, and anything else I can think of. It's going to be a learning process, so bear with me!

So, without further ado, here is my very first OOTD!

Tank: Old Navy
Vest: Giant Tiger
Jeans: Joe Fresh
Sneakers: Thrifted
Cuff: Claire's (bought it over 10 years ago!)

As you can tell by the background, I love turquoise, teal and green! I wore this outfit on a marathon shopping trip that took me from Barrington, Hollis, Spring Garden, Queen, Blowers then up to Mumford. I just had got back from shopping by myself when my mother calls and wants me to come out again with her, my dad, brother and aunt. Glad I did, though, as I bought a fabulous dress!

So far I have a few more posts lined up, so you will see more of me! Til then, thanks for stopping by!
