Introducing my cats!

Hello!

I will probably talk about my cats a ridiculous amount here on my blog. They are my children, my furbabies, if you will. I grew up not having any pets, save for mice in 9th and 10th grade. I liked dogs growing up, but it was cats that I loved. I sometimes spent more time with my friends cats when I came to visit than with them! So when I finally got a place of my own, it was only a couple weeks before I got two kittens. My boyfriend's parents lived next door to a girl who was moving away to art school, and she had dozens of cats. So they took two kittens from a litter and brought them to me! They were both boys, but originally I was told they were girls. So they were first named Princess and Mahoot. We took them to the vet to get their shots and dewormed, and Princess became Prince. It evolved from there, and now it's Carlos and Mahoot.

This is Captain Ambrose Deadbird Mahoot IV. His nicknames are Hoot, Hooter Bean, Hootie and  Hooter. His pastimes are sleeping, being mischievous and sniffing eyeballs. He's weird.

This is Prince Carlos The Cheat. His nicknames are Los, Car Lo Lo, Loser Bean (low-ser, not loo-ser), and Losie. His pastimes are sleeping and cuddling with me on the couch. He's a total Mama's Boy.

So now you know about my cats. Now here's some stuff about me!

Style Envy: Deborah Kerr

Hello!

I was channel surfing tonight and got excited when I saw King Solomon's Mines was on TCM. Having watched the 1985 film hundreds of times as a child, I was disappointed to see it was the earlier 1950 film. Nevertheless, I put it on to see if it was as funny and actioned-packed as the one I love. Sadly, it is not. But the leading lady caught my attention. Deborah Kerr. She's the star of The King and I, An Affair to Remember, and From Here to Eternity. Such an amazing talent, and she's such a stunningly beautiful redhead. I wish I could style my hair even half as well as she does, though she probably had a stylist! Enough with my gushing, I'll just let her photos do the rest!

That's all for now, thanks for stopping by!

All that Glitters...

Hello!

Well, it's definitely autumn here in Halifax. There's a chill in the air and the rain is cold! That's what it's doing right now, making me feel like curling up with the cats and sleeping the rest of the day away. Spring and summer are my favorite seasons, so I'm getting into my least favorite time of year. But the good thing is I get to wear lots of scarves, hats and mittens! Anyhoo, on to my outfit of the day.

This dress was an unbelievable buy. Again, I was shopping with my mother in New Glasgow and I found the dress for $3.99!!!!! I've worn it a few times with tights, which makes it less formal.

I love this dress paired with a cardigan. A chunky knit one would be great later on in the fall.

These shoes are another of my favorites. I didn't get a shot of the wedge heel, which makes them so much easier to wear.

Cranky Camera

Hello!

Today's OOTD was a pain to get. Two failed photo shoots with a camera that was not cooperating resulted in some lack-luster choices. But I really love the outfit! I wore this on a girl's night out with my former classmates from the Library and Information Technology Program. We may be library people, but the pub we went to was glad we had a private room! We were soooo loud! We drank and ate pub food and generally talked about our jobs (or lack of). I never want to lose touch with these women. We became a little family in our two years together. Anyway, enough about the LIT ladies! On to the outfit!

This face just sums up how I felt about these photos. "Well, not much I can do!"

The camera was just not focussing. It's a little Canon Elph so I don't expect perfect shots, but at least a bit clearer!

The top really reminds me of Greek togas.

You might ask yourself how I manage to match things so well. I'm just obsessed with this shade of teal. I have five tops, shoes, a purse, necklaces and earrings all in this one colour! Plus Suzy Shier was my go to store for years, and they had a lot of teal. I'm like a magpie for teal. TEAL TEAL TEAL!

Ain't nothing gonna break my stride

Hello!

So I've tried to stick to a posting schedule. Fascinator Fridays, said a NOTD would appear two days ago. But I'm just going to go with the flow- post when I want, what I want. So you might see a fascinator tomorrow, or a month from now. I'm just going to be flexible, and see where it takes me. But first, I will do a NOTD!

I was searching the local drugstore flyers for any sales on nail polish. It just so happened the brand I buy most was on sale at Lawton's. So off I went to stock up!

This is L.A. Girl Professional Salon Lacquer in Copper. A nice fall colour with a micro-glitter finish. My nails look horrible because I did a rush job fixing them after losing a couple nails to the horrors of shelving books. I can wear nail polish for days and have it last, but a few hours of man handling books, dvds and cds and it is chipped. I never fault any nail polish for chipping. I'm really hard on it, so I never have huge expectations. I used a Sinful Colours base coat and a L.A. Colors Voltage, a clear polish, as a topcoat.

Please excuse my awful, stubby toes!

This is L.A. Colors Color Craze in Wired. I was expecting a blue closer to navy, but I'm happy with the shade. I've had highlighter orange toenails for ages (L. A. Colors Shock ), so this is a nice change.

I have two other new polishes to show, but I won't promise any date that it will be posted on!

Til next time, thanks for stopping by!

P.S. UK, Canadian and Australian readers will probably agree, typing the word "color" is so hard! It needs to be COLOUR!

I've got the Blues

 Hello!

It's Friday! Another skipped Fascinator Friday, but I will get back to it! I should be excited for the weekend, but I'm working tomorrow. Boo! Speaking of work, here's an outfit fit for a fashionable librarian. I love cardigans, so I've chosen the right profession!
Cardigans don't have to be frumpy, and they can be paired with some great tops and pants.

I like the neckline on the tank top, but it can be hard to keep bra straps under cover!

A close up of the sequins, beads and rhinestones on the neckline. Not a boring cardigan!

The shoes. I've wanted a pair since Boardwalk Empire came out. Love all the detail. They are a nice dark navy suede with black leather. LOVE THESE SHOES!
Cardigan- Old navy
Tank Top- Tattoo
Shorts- Mark's Work Warehouse
Shoes- Thrifted (George)

That's all for now. Tomorrow I will have new nail polish to show! Thanks for stopping by.

Pink, Pink, and More Pink!

 Hello!

Another day, another pink post! I've been wanting to wear this coat for ages, but it's not the easiest to wear. It's not waterproof or overly warm. The late spring or early fall are really the only times I can wear it, and only if it's dry. Today was a bit rainy, so after the photos were taken, I had to leave it at home!

I forgot to get a close-up of the coat, but it's covered in light, medium and dark pink "bubbles". The buttons are hot pink, and so is the lining!

I love the pockets, which are deep and are built into the seam so they leave the  front of the coat smooth.

I had pink literally from head to toe!

This is a cardigan I haven't worn in a long time. I always have a hard time finding something to wear under it- I don't own much pink!

A close up of the pretty embroidered flowers. There are iridescent beads in the centers of the flowers and around the very edge of the neckline and cuffs.

The shoes and purse, which I couldn't help but match! The purse is supposedly a makeup bag, but I like its bowling bag shape and beautiful pink colour! The flats got pretty dirty on my walk home. They're satin, so I'll have to be very careful cleaning them.

NOTD and beauty haul

Hello!

Today's post is all about pink! It's the Labour Day weekend here in Canada, and most stores are closed today. It's one of the few days a year you see the Walmart parking lot completely empty. It's one of my few days off, so of course I had to seek out one of the few stores still open and see what I could find. Shopping does not stop for holidays! I went to Lawton's, and checked out the clearance beauty stuff. I always find something good there!

These false lashes were $6.99, and I got them for $1.99.

They have pretty rainbow sequins!

I couldn't just buy 1 pair!

They're still a little showy, but I think I could wear them more often than the other pair!

I need some serious hair therapy after bleaching and dying it so much. This will hopefully make it soft and shiny!

Another hair mask- this one only stays in for a minute, but it's like a hot oil treatment. Both were just .99 cents!

This was what I came to Lawton's for. I've been searching for NYX's Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk. I watch vintageortacky's makeup tutorials and she is always using it! NYX is only sold in Lawton's stores in Nova Scotia, and this is the first time Milk was not sold out! The last Lawton's I went to only had Cottage Cheese, which I wasn't sure was the right shade. But I finally have it!

The store had new displays up for their fall makeup and nail collections. I was drawn to the Wet n' Wild display of nail polishes, their new On the Prowl collection. When I saw Correction Tape, I had a brilliant idea. Cupcakes and sprinkles!

I was inspired by Deborah Lippman's Candy Shop, which is bubble gum pink with multicoloured glitter. I happened to have just the right shade already for the base.

This is Sally Hansen's Truth. I couldn't tell you how old this polish is. I just know it's past its prime. Very streaky and gloppy. I'll be on the lookout for a new bottle to replace it, likely by another brand. Any suggestions on a good bubble gum pink?

This is Correction Tape. Apparently it's very close to Party of Five Glitters, also by Wet n' Wild. Pink, turquoise, gold and black glitter. I love it! Do you think it's a close enough match to Candy Shop?

I also went out Saturday to pick up a few things. Hard Candy is my new favorite makeup brand!

This is a pretty good face primer- smooths everything out.

I had been on the lookout for a felt tip eyeliner. I hadn't found anything, until I looked at Hard Candy. I bought Nautical first, since Little Black Dress was sold out. I went to another store to look for it- sold out there, too. They must have had a restock this week, because I was able to get one! I was a little unsure if Little Black Dress would be a jet black, since Nautical was not as vibrant as I expected. But I was pleasantly surprised! Nice jet black. Now to perfect my left eye (I can get a straight line and perfect wing on my right eye, but I always mess up my left).

This was so hard to photograph! The shiny packaging made it impossible to get a good shot. It is Glow all the way in doll face. It's a nice subtle highlighter that I've used on my cheekbones and browbones. It's a very pale pink, and it blends very well.

This is Plumping Serum volumizing lip gloss- no shade name. It's very pale pink, and has a bit of a menthol or something to make your lips tingle. I'll use it over lipstick, on its own it's too pale.

And finally, a blush that was a bit messy when I bought it. The package must have got bumped, and a bit of the powder broke off and went everywhere. Still a great blush, though. It's called living doll, and it's light enough for my paleness.

This entire haul over two days was...wait for it... less than $40! That's a SHUT THE FRONT DOOR kinda deal! Well, that's all for now, thanks for stopping by!
